Things That Must Never Be Done to Mousepads
If you’re a gamer or simply spend a lot of time at the computer at work, you know for sure that the computer mouse mat is a very helpful thing to have on the table.
It doesn’t just help your mouse to grip better to the table surface, it allows you to work more efficiently. Imagine if you had to spend twice as much time on simply trying to get the cursor to the right icon on the screen because the mouse can’t move fast enough!
However, such a handy accessory tends to get dirty and greasy very fast which is no wonder, especially if we use it regularly and actively. But it is not only dust that you’re supposed to worry about.
Yes, the greasy surface of the mouse mat can reduce its grip and thus the efficiency of the mouse itself.
Nevertheless, dirty accessories like a mouse or keyboard can become a great “home” for microbes and bacteria, and that’s not good at all.
But one more issue exists and it is about the way we maintain our computer devices. Since these electronic gadgets are quite expensive and sensitive to certain impacts, we need to learn what is unsafe for them.
That is why we decided to give every computer user a brief and informative guide that will help you to learn certain things that must never be done to mouse mats or other electronics in order to keep them working longer.
- Never put mouse mats to the dryer since it can lead to damaging their surface, especially if it has any prints on it.
- Washing computer mats in hot water is not a good idea. Most of them are made of rather sensitive fibers that will decrease their quality and can even lose properties when cleaned improperly.
- If you realize it is time to take care of the keyboard, never cleanse it when it is still working. Unplug it first, then turn upside down and carefully shake a bit to get out all the debris and crumbs (we know you often eat at the computer!). Then simply spray each key with a compressed air and sanitize them with any quick-drying cleaner.
- We suggest you sanitize your mouse mat and keyboard regularly even if it is only you who is using the items. However, instead of hot water, go for any rapidly drying sanitizer to pulverize it over the rug or make use of a simple disinfectant wipe.
- Never apply water on metal or plastic mats since even a little bit of liquid will leave a spot.
- Avoid to air the gaming mat in a hot dryer. Instead, let it lay flat until it is completely moist-free. We believe that you’re aware of what happens to the wooden table if we place a damp item on it, right?
These hints are very simple to learn, but we hope that this brief guide will help you to maintain the gadgets in a good state so that they could serve you longer, or simply give the old and dusty ones a new life.

Hey there! I need a piece of advice folks! I’m washing my mousepad today and I realized that I have no idea how to do it right! Ha-ha! It’s a gaming pad, ordinary rubberized one without aluminum inside. Can I put my mousepad in the washing machine? How d’you think?
Hi! I would not recommend you to wash it even if it has no aluminum. I’ve got Steelseries pad myself and its instruction says that it has to be hand-washed. Sorry, it seems like you’ll have to work hard on it to make it clean!
Hello there! I’ve recently bought a new mousepad, it’s a large one for gaming. Before, I always used simple small cloth pads so I’m not quite sure when to clean this mousepad I have now. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hey! Well, first of all, you need to figure out whether your pad will stand the machine wash. If you know the brand, call them and ask (or call the shop you bought the item from). If the original box is still alive, check it for any instructions. I can only tell you that gaming pads mostly have to be cleaned manually.
Hey everyone! I can see you guys are well informed about mousepads here, so I came for some help. My mousepad has a gel wrist rest and since it’s time to clean it, I don’t know what method to use to not ruin the gel thing. Does anyone know here how to clean a mousepad with wrist rest? Thanks a lot!
Hi there! I used to have such a pad before. Well, as far as I remember, I used to run the pad under warm water, then I applied some shampoo, scrubbed it off, and rinsed the pad again to delete any foamy particles. For drying, you’d better dab it and just let it sit. That’s all I can suggest. Hope you’ll make it!
How to clean felt mousepad? Mine is pretty dusty now and it’s going to be the first wash. Please, give me some tips! Thanks.
Hello! I know those pads pretty well, I used them for several years but they were quite a nightmare for me! Get dirty too fast, you know. So, yeah, as for the cleaning: what I usually did was to make a solution of dish soap&water, immerse the pad into it, rub it carefully to delete the dust, then rinse the pad (see that all the foam must be out!). I used to air dry it but I know some people leave it close to the open window – choose yourself.
Hi everyone! Please, guys, does anyone know how to clean dusty mousepad? It’s for gaming so it’s pretty durable. Can I wash it, someone knows? Thanks!
Well, hello!
If it’s gaming, I’d recommend you wash it manually. I do that all the time.
Just toss the pad into the washing solution (I use water and liquid soap), work it with a sponge, rinse, and leave to dry.
Even if it has aluminum elements, a hand wash won’t harm them.
Is there a way to deep clean a mouse pad? I already tried to first dust and then wash mine, but it is still dirty! Will be grateful for any suggestions.
Hi!
Did you try to sponge it? For mine, it always works 100%! I usually take a demi-soft dish sponge and just work the pad adding some liquid soap. Yeah, you’ll have to spend some time on it but the dust will be deleted.
Only don’t rub too hard!
And of course, wash it afterward!
How to clean large mousepad? I’ve got a pretty big gaming one. I know it’s not meant for washing barrel. Where to clean it in such a case?
For really large pads, use a bathtub. Fill it with warm water and/or liquid soap/shampoo, and hand-wash the item there.
Does anyone know how to wash a mousepad in a washing machine?
You need to wash it with a mild detergent or a dash of soap, using a cold-water, low-tumble setting. Never use hot water as the heat may damage the rubber backing!
I’ve recently noticed how dirty my mousepad is! Can anyone explain how to clean a razer mousepad quickly, please?
I recommend you use a lint-free microfiber cloth. Lightly dip it in tap water and wipe your mat in circular motion. The cloth must not be dripping wet!
Does anyone know how to wash glorious gaming mousepads correctly? I’ve never washed mine before (it’s a new pad, I bought it a few months ago), so I’m afraid I might damage it if I wash it wrong.
I’m pretty sure you can wash it in a washing machine with a dash of soap or using a mild laundry detergent. Just make sure you set the cold water regime and switch to the low-tumble setting! Otherwise, your pad might get damaged!
Can anyone share some helpful tips on how to clean a mouse if there’s lint buildup in the joints?
I always use a clean toothpick for this purpose. You just need to be careful and not stick it too deep! If you want, you might try a brush. There’s no need to use water or cleaning solutions, by the way.
Can anyone explain how to wash an artisan mousepad correctly? Can I toss it into a washing machine, for example?
Hey there. I heard it’s not safe to machine wash it. I never tried myself though. I typically wash my pad by hand with some soap and a brush.
Hey folks! I need your help. I’ve recently bought my first steelseries qck prism mousepad. But after a while, I’ve faced an issue: how to clean this mousepad? Does anyone know?
